What we process

Device key: a random identifier stored in your browser or app, signed by us, so your friends, settings and Plus stay with you.

Profile: the nickname you choose, optionally your gender and whether to show it, and your interface language.

Network data: your IP address is used to connect you, estimate your country and prevent abuse. We store a shortened form (a network prefix) for bans and invite fraud checks. Country lookup runs on our own server using the IP Geolocation database by DB-IP (db-ip.com, CC BY 4.0); your IP is not sent to them.

A one-way device hash (a short fingerprint of browser and screen characteristics) used only to stop people from inviting themselves.

Reports: the reason, optional note and, if you choose, a snapshot of the reported video.

Payments are handled by our payment provider; we receive only the plan and status, not your card details.

What we do not process

We do not record video or audio. Calls are end-to-end encrypted and pass through our own relay servers, which cannot read their content.

Text chat is relayed in real time and not stored.

Nudity detection runs entirely on your device. No frames are uploaded for it.

We do not use advertising trackers and we do not sell your data.

Why we process it (legal bases)

To provide the service you ask for (contract). To keep people safe and prevent abuse, including bans and invite fraud checks (legitimate interests and legal obligations). To process payments (contract).

How long we keep it

Profile and device key: until you reset your device or 12 months after your last visit. Network prefixes: up to 30 days, or longer while a ban is active. Reports and evidence: up to 180 days, or longer if needed for legal claims or law enforcement. Payment records: as required by tax law.

Translation

Messages you choose to translate are processed by translation servers we operate ourselves and are not stored.

Cookies and storage

We use your browser’s local storage for your device key and settings, and one short-lived cookie to remember an invite code. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Your rights

You can access, correct or delete your data. The fastest way to delete everything on your device is Settings → Reset this device. For other requests email privacy@strangerio.com with your recovery code or device details. You may also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Strangerio is for adults only. If we learn that a user is under 18, we remove them and delete their data except where we must keep it to protect them or comply with the law.
