Free cam to cam chat, set up in two minutes
Cam chat on Strangerio is free, random and runs in the browser you already have. Before you start meeting people cam to cam, spend two minutes on your camera, light and sound. It's the difference between people staying to talk and people tapping Next.
Light matters more than your camera
An old laptop webcam looks fine with a window or lamp in front of you. A brand-new phone looks awful with a bright window behind you, because it exposes for the window and turns your face into a silhouette.
Face the light, not away from it. At night, a desk lamp pointed at the wall does the job. Raise the laptop on a couple of books so the lens is at eye level; nobody wants to chat with your chin and the ceiling.
Sound for cam to cam chat
Bad audio ends more chats than bad video. Built-in laptop mics pick up keyboard clatter and fan noise, and speakers feed the other person's voice back into your mic as echo.
Earbuds or headphones fix most of it. If you stick with speakers, keep the volume moderate and sit closer to the mic. Turn off music or the TV in the background too, because the other person hears it louder than you do.
Allowing your camera in the browser
The first time you press start, your browser asks to use your camera and microphone. Click Allow. A cam chat needs both, and if you'd rather not be seen, voice only is right there on the start screen.
Blocked it by accident? In Chrome, Edge or Firefox, click the camera or lock icon next to the address bar and set Camera and Microphone to Allow, then reload. In Safari on a Mac, open Settings, then Websites, then Camera. On iPhone, go to the Settings app, scroll to Safari and check Camera and Microphone.
Black screen? Check these first
Nine times out of ten, a black preview comes down to one of these:
- Another app is holding the camera. Close Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, OBS or any other tab using video, then reload.
- The lens is covered. Lots of laptops have a sliding privacy shutter or a camera key on the keyboard.
- The wrong camera is selected. Pick the right one in Strangerio's settings, or switch between front and back on your phone.
- Your network blocks video calls. Some school and office Wi-Fi does. Try mobile data or another network.
Why the other person's video starts blurred
Every match starts with the other person's video blurred. A small model running on your own device checks the picture, and once it's clear the blur lifts. If nudity shows up later in the call, it's hidden automatically and you can report with one tap.
The check happens locally, so nothing is uploaded for it. Calls are relayed through Strangerio's own servers, which means the person on the other end never sees your IP address. That's how a free cam chat for adults (18+) should work: you see faces, not surprises.
Phone or laptop?
Phones usually have the better camera, but holding one up for twenty minutes gets old, so prop it against something. Use the front camera, and flip to the back one when you want to show what's around you.
Laptops are steadier, and the bigger screen makes long chats easier on the eyes. Both work in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge with nothing to download, and there's an Android app if you'd rather have one.

Say hi on camera
You're matched in under a second. Next is always one tap away.
Common questions
Why can't the other person see me?
Check that your camera isn't switched off in the call controls and that no other app is using it. If your own preview looks fine, their connection may still be catching up. Give it a few seconds or press Next.
My video is dark and grainy. Can I fix it?
Almost always, with light. Turn on a lamp in front of you, wipe the lens and close the curtains behind you. Grain is just a camera struggling in the dark.
What if I see something explicit?
The on-device check should hide it automatically. If something slips through, tap Report, attach a snapshot if you like, and you won't meet that person again. Strangerio is a cam chat for adults, not an adult cam site, and explicit content breaks the rules.
Can I turn my camera off during a chat?
Yes. Tap the camera button and the call carries on as audio. Turn it back on whenever you like.
Does an external webcam work?
Yes. Plug it in before you open Strangerio, then choose it in settings if your laptop's built-in camera is picked by default.
