A video chat app for your phone, installed or not
Strangerio works as a video chat app on Android and straight from the browser on any phone. Same random video calls, same friends, same safety features. Here's how to pick the setup that suits your phone.
Android: get the app on Google Play
On Android, the app is on Google Play. It opens full screen, uses the phone's own permission settings for camera and microphone, and sits one tap from your home screen.
If you denied camera access at some point, the app shows a button that takes you straight to the right settings page. Allow camera and microphone there, come back, and you're ready to go.
Rather not install anything? Chrome on Android runs the site just as well, and you can add it to your home screen from the browser menu.
iPhone: Safari and your home screen
There's no App Store app. On iPhone, open strangerio.com in Safari and it works as is, camera, mic and all.
To make it feel like an app, tap the Share button in Safari, choose Add to Home Screen and confirm. You get an icon, it opens full screen without the address bar, and you never have to type the address again.
No install? The browser is enough
On a laptop, a work computer or a borrowed phone, you don't need to install anything. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all run the full random video call experience, including voice mode, translation and friends.
The real difference is convenience. The Android app and the home-screen version open full screen and are quicker to reach; the browser is there when you can't or don't want to install anything.
Mobile data and battery
Video calls eat a fair amount of data, more on a strong connection where the picture is sharper. On a limited plan, stay on Wi-Fi when you can or switch to voice only, which uses far less.
Walking out of Wi-Fi range used to end a call. The app tries to resume it for a few seconds instead, so leaving the house mid-chat doesn't automatically cut you off.
Video chat keeps the camera, screen and network busy all at once, so phones warm up and batteries drain. Turn the brightness down, close other apps that use the camera, and plug in for long sessions.
Friends and calls on your phone
Friends you add with the heart can call you while you're both online. An incoming call shows their nickname and whether it's video or voice, with Accept and Decline. You can ring them back the same way from your friends list.
Friends and settings are stored with the private key on each device. If you use both the app and the browser, treat them as separate and pick one as your main place to chat.

Common questions
Is there a Strangerio app for iPhone?
Not in the App Store. On iPhone, it runs in Safari, and adding it to your home screen gives you a full-screen icon that behaves much like an app.
Is the Android app different from the website?
It's the same service: same matching, same people, same features. The app just opens full screen and handles permissions through Android settings.
How much data does a random video call use?
There's no single number, because it depends on your connection and how sharp the picture is. Video uses noticeably more than voice, so on a capped plan stick to Wi-Fi or go voice only.
Why does my phone get hot during video chat?
The camera, screen, processor and network are all working at once, so some heat is normal. Lower the brightness, take off a thick case for long calls and don't charge it under a pillow.
Can I use Strangerio on a tablet?
Yes, in the browser. An iPad works through Safari and an Android tablet through Chrome. Propped up on a stand, a tablet is a nice middle ground between a phone and a laptop.
Are the rules the same in the app?
Yes. It's adults only (18+) everywhere, and the blurred safe start, one-tap reporting and appealable bans work the same in the app and the browser.
