Voice chat with strangers, camera off
Voice chat with strangers is random chat without the pressure of being seen. On Strangerio you pick voice only before you start and you're matched in under a second: just two voices and whatever you feel like talking about.
For the camera-shy, the tired and the busy
Plenty of people would chat more if they didn't have to fix their hair first. Voice mode keeps your camera off from the first second, so nobody is judging your room, your lighting or your face at midnight.
It's also the better pick when you're lying in bed, cooking dinner or pacing around the room. You get a random voice call with a real person without having to sit still in front of a lens.
Practice a language out loud
Speaking is the part of a new language that apps and textbooks barely train. A random voice chat drops you into an unscripted conversation with someone who speaks it every day, which is exactly the practice you need.
Add “Language exchange” as an interest and you'll be matched first with people who want the same. Interests work across languages, so your “music” still matches someone who picked “música”. Lost for a word? Type it in the chat. Text messages are translated live; voice isn't, which is the whole point of practicing.
Switching from voice to video
Sometimes a voice call goes well enough that you want to see who you're talking to. Video only turns on when both of you agree, so nobody gets put on camera by surprise.
If you'd rather stay voice only, just say so. Plenty of good conversations never need a picture. And if you do switch, the safe start still applies: the other person's video starts blurred until a check on your own device clears it.
Better sound in a random voice call
With no picture, audio is everything. A few small habits make a big difference:
- Use earbuds or headphones. Speakers loop the other voice back into your mic, so they hear themselves on a delay.
- Keep the mic close. Phone mics are good; a phone on the other side of the room is not.
- Mute between sentences if there's background noise, and unmute to answer.
- If your phone jumps from Wi-Fi to mobile data, hang on. Strangerio tries to resume the call for a few seconds instead of dropping it.
Late-night talks
Voice chat is at its best after midnight. People are more relaxed, nobody cares what they look like, and since matching goes nearby first and then worldwide, somebody is always awake somewhere.
That openness cuts both ways. Strangerio is for adults (18+), and the usual rules still count: no personal details, no money, and Next or Report the moment a conversation turns. A voice you like is still a stranger.

Common questions
Can the other person see me in voice mode?
No. Your camera stays off. They see your nickname and, only if you chose to show it, your gender. Video starts only if you both agree to turn it on.
Can I send messages during a voice chat?
Yes. Text chat works in voice mode too, and messages are translated into your language within the daily allowance. Links are blocked, so nobody can spam you with them.
Does Strangerio translate what people say?
No, only text messages get translated. Speech doesn't. For language practice that's actually useful: you hear the real thing and type when you get stuck.
What if the call cuts out?
Short drops, like switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data, are handled for you: the call tries to resume for a few seconds. If the other person's connection is really gone, you'll be matched with someone new.
How anonymous is voice chat?
As anonymous as you keep it. There's no account, the other person sees the nickname you picked, and your IP address stays hidden because calls run through Strangerio's servers. What you say out loud is up to you.
How do I report someone in a voice chat?
Same as on video: tap Report, pick a reason and send. You won't be matched with them again, and they won't know it was you.
